One of the things I love best about where we live is the simple fact that I can walk out our door in almost any direction, and come home an hour later with a bucket full of blackberries and three kinds of edible wild mushrooms.

Beautiful! We too found boletes and chanterelles yesterday (and black trumpets!), in Pennsylvania. It has been a good berry and mushroom season for us so far.

  • Ben Hewitt says:

    Hey Zoe,

Do ya’ll eat “bluing” boletes? You know, the ones that stain blue when to break off a piece… one of my ‘shrooming friends told me to stay away from them, but it seems like an awful lot of people think they’re the cat’s meow.

  • Vonnie says:

    Hey Ben,

Are you okay over there? Hoping your family was safe in the flooding, sending you good thoughts that all is okay.

  • Ben Hewitt says:

    Hi Vonnie,

Thanks for checking in. We were basically unaffected by the storm; got six-inches of rain and a little wind, but nothing like what happened in other parts of VT. Even the low-lying areas around here were spared.

Now the weather is beautiful and we’re in the midst of second-cut haying. Almost finished.

    Take care,
